What is a medical desert?
A medical desert designates a geographical area where the population encounters difficulties in accessing health care.
The density of professionals or establishments in the health sector, in particular of doctors, is related to its population and its needs, significantly lower than in the rest of the country.
They are correlated with less dynamism, particularly economic or an aging population and difficulty in replacing professionals who cease their activity despite their workload.
Depending on the region of the world, the threshold varies.
What is e-health?
E-health or digital health or digital health information is a set of technologies for communicating medical information, which allows people receiving medical care to participate in the management of their health by accessing reliable medical information.
E-health covers areas of health that involve information and communication technologies (ICT).
The term e-health thus brings together a set of techniques such as : tele-health, tele-medicine (all connected objects and mobile applications) and robotics.
The term “health” is to be taken in a broad sense and as the World Health Organization points out, it does not only concern illnesses but also relates to a complete state of physical, mental and social well-being.
The development of e-health is based on a particular scientific field, medical informatics (or health informatics), a field which has close links with informatics but whose problems are specific to the field of health.
E-health is particularly linked to electronics, particularly in the context of connected objects in relation to health.
